The Search for Enlightenment

This video is based on information and footage from the 2014 International Convention tours in Myanmar.
It briefly reviews things we learned to help us teach Buddhists more effectively.

Buddhism takes many forms and can be accompanied by a wide range of beliefs and practices. However, because it often focuses on the life and teachings of one man, Buddhists may initially find it easier to relate to the life and teachings of Jesus.

Belief in a Creator is not taught, nor are answers often sought to such questions as, 'Where do we come from?' or 'Why does God allow suffering?'

The highest point in Thailand
Family is of utmost importance to many cultures that embrace Buddhism. Showing how the Bible can improve their family life is often of great interest to both men and women.

Buddhism teaches that the end of suffering is reached only by countless lifetimes of good deeds and meditation. Since the reward is so far off, many Buddhists simply focus on giving offerings to ancestors and monks as well as being kind to others, while making the most of their life now.

In contrast to Buddhist teaching, the solution to mankind's problems as presented in the Bible is quite simple and easy to understand. One teacher even referred to it as "a shortcut." By having faith in the ransom, a person only needs one lifetime to escape the effects of sin and death. Appreciation for the ransom can help them gradually build faith in God.

Hope this helps!

Loved this Lexi! Definitely something to know in order to understand where householders comes from "reasoning wise", and how we can help them.

I'm sure your training in the field ministry in Thailand has really helped you in this area. Amazing. If it's okay, I'll share this with my aunt who's been learning Chinese for yrs and has calls. I LOVE the video.

Hope you're enjoying your break back here in the states for a little while! Thanks always for your encouraging posts.

Love,
Tiera

Yeah! It was really good to know for us as well. I feel so much more comfortable with Buddhists now. Like I understand where they're coming from. Please share it with anyone you'd like! How are you liking Macedonian? I just found out our CO here was in the Macedonian group in New Jersey for four years before entering the circuit work. They love learning languages. Brother Clark especially is really pushing for people to leave english. Exciting times. So many frustrated/happy language learners to identify with. :)
Thanks for staying in touch!

You don't know me just a needgreater but your blog has really encouraged me to try to witness to Buddhist. Just yesterday at a Thai restaurant I got to share jw.org with our waitress who excitedly proclaimed how happy she is to go home and read our publications in her own language! Thanks for putting your life out there.... Savannah

Wonderful video! Thank you! Very helpful. I had never put much of this together. Nirvana=death. Beautiful.

One thing that has been successful for us is to mention that in the Buddhist religion, mother and father are worshipped. But who is the original Father, who made us & the Earth? He would be the highest Father, right? So we need to learn about him. First off, what is his name? PS 83. Then Isaiah 66:1, explaining how much higher he is than idols who need to be fed & sheltered.
